The Supreme Court of Canada has repeatedly warned of the dangers of relying on myths and stereotypes about women who report sexual assault, most recently in the companion cases from British Columbia of R v. Kruk and R v. Tsang. Janine Benedet, KC, Professor at the Allard School of Law, will consider the impact of these decisions on judicial reasoning in sexual assault cases, in the context of the broader history of myths and stereotypes as a category of legal error.
